| The Great Northern BMW Riders is a (#118) chartered organization that was founded in midcoast Maine in 1982. It is comprised of a diverse group of individuals who share two passions in common: Riding motorcycles and the great German machines they choose to do this upon . . . BMW. We do not have a group preference or bias toward Airhead, Oilhead or Blockhead. To us they are all excellent models. Some members are vintage buffs, riding their /2s across the countryside. Others find the /5 to /7 series more to their liking, but own a K as well. GS, RS and RT . . . S, C, and R all come together at our meetings. We just enjoy the camaraderie of the marque and the road that stretches out before us. Our membership hovers at around the 35 mark. Some original members (the founding fathers?) at the core, with new people joining on regularly. Basically speaking, if you own a BMW and enjoy riding you are already one of us. Just bring along $5.00 to the next scheduled club event, or send it to Gordon, our club treasurer, and you will be added to our mailing list. Many members have owned several models, and through their experience and recall we have a living history of possible solutions to many quirks, questions and problems that you may be stumped by. Do not fall into a "gumption trap" as senior Pirsig describes them, you have fellow clubmembers that may be able to help. That to me is the true spirit of BMW riders, willing to pass on knowledge whenever it is asked of them. "If it sounds like fun, do it. If you want to be there, ride there. And when you leave there, don't leave a mess." Anonymous "...I am still at it heading to 80, ... so don't stop riding until you pass me ..."
